When speaking of ebook publishing services, there are several very different things in play. Firstly, there are companies pitching ‘author services’ or ‘publishing services’ for a price. These companies usually offer an extensive publishing service, starting from developmental editing to POD or e-distribution. While these companies can be similar at first glance, they are very different regarding their approach to the author and their books. There is a thin line between genuine publishing services and vanity publishing, as there are steps that can be expensive if done properly (like editing or cover design).
You may get your ebooks from here and there and their source formats may be varied. Never worry about that if you have our universal ebook converter. Any EBook Converter Free has a huge list of both input and output formats supported: EPUB, MOBI, DOCX, PDF, TXT, HTML, FB2, CBZ, CHM, LIT, ODT, PML, RTF, SNB, AZW3 and tons more. You can freely convert between each of them.

You can set up your own website and sell your ebook directly online. You might make a PDF available to your readers for example. A simple shopping cart or PayPal link and you’re all set. A reader visits your site, they order, and they get a download link and get your book. It’s pretty much all automated, and you simply keep an eye on things to make sure the site is running smoothly.
Great post, and I’m glad I read it because I have a lot of ideas and have one book written (for teens), but I wasn’t sure if I should turn it into an eBook or keep it as a ‘full blown’ non-fiction book. Of course, I could self-publish it and write eBooks based on the material, develop webinars/teleseminars, speak with teens/parents/professionals who work with teens, etc. Hmm…I have a lot of thinking to do. It’s time I get off my butt and get my products out there. 🙂

If you have a lot of images in your book or a lot of complicated tables, then you will have more problems in formatting. You will also have a bigger file size, and although ebooks are typically free in terms of delivery, Amazon does include a delivery cost in their pricing setup. That will be higher if you have a bigger file, and images can really expand the file size. If your delivery cost goes too high, you’re not going to make much royalty. So, it’s really important to consider the size of your file.
"I have the Kindle app on my phone for when I am on the train during my morning commute but sometimes I just can't afford a new book :((((((((((((.......I decided to try torrents to see what kind of titles are out there for free.......After finding many torrent sites that are offline now or almost useless because of ads and malicious software, I stumbled upon Torrent Off. I was cautious at first, but after downloading several titles, or which there are more than 700,000 listed on the site, I was pleasantly surprised :) and continue to download from this site. It has worked like a charm with no viruses and no pop up ads like so many other torrent sites out there."

Great post and great insight on how to get your ebooks published and where. This post gave me great ideas on a booklet I’m revising for my business. Thought I should publish as a .PDF on my website, but now I’m considering creating it for Kindle too. With the ever-changing audiences and readers demanding more for less, it really is important to be so progressive. I’m diversifying my offerings and this will be one avenue I definitely want to pursue.
I am familiar with BuckBooks but i’m not sure how it relates to That’s My eBook. They are both ebook related websites but totally different in operation. BuckBooks requires you to reduce your ebook to $0.99 to make a sale or promote your ebook. Users are forced to join a mailing list and the site is very difficult to navigate through… not to mention the message “SORRY, BUCKS BOOKS IS CURRENTLY CLOSED TO AUTHOR SUBMISSIONS. PLEASE CHECK BACK LATER.” on their submission page.
I can't tell you how long Amazon will continue offering this deal -- and what future payout rates will be -- but I do know plenty of indie authors who are choosing the KDP Select option and not publishing on other platforms because they think it makes the most sense both in terms of number of sales (or downloads) and earnings. Kindle still has the largest market share with about 60 percent of the e-book pie (Nook is at around 25 percent, Apple 15 percent, and others are left to pick up the crumbs).
I begin with one caveat: The whole e-book market is rapidly evolving, and a lot of self-publishing companies are offering e-book deals bundled into their print book publishing packages, which makes them harder to break out and evaluate. It's all quite complicated, and in an effort to sort through the confusion, I've decided to offer a few basic tips and present what I think are some of the best options out there for creating an e-book quickly and easily. As things change -- and they will -- I'll do my best to keep this column up to date.

Great, informative, and straight-to-the-point article Paul. Thanks! I’m gathering a lot of information about e-publishing on the Kindle platform on our ‘Write2Profit’ Writer’s Website, and this is really helpful. As a Kindle ‘newbie’ I’m also hoping to publish some e-Books on Kindle shortly, so again – thanks for a really useful and informative article. I’m off to get your free e-Book now, so thanks for that, too!
This is probably the most comprehensive Kindle article I’ve ever read. As someone who’s been in publishing for many years and seen eBooks grow from internet marketers to the general public, and therefore being abused by authors who don’t know any better, I thank you for posting the importance of audience, a decent cover, and especially proper formatting.
KDP Select is a new option that features a $6 million annual fund dedicated to independent authors and publishers. If you choose to make a book exclusive to the Kindle Store for at least 90 days, the book is eligible to be included in the Kindle Owners' Lending Library and you can earn a share of the fund based on how frequently the book is borrowed (click here to see how payments are calculated). In addition, by choosing KDP Select, you will have access to a new set of promotional tools, starting with the option to offer enrolled books free to readers for up to 5 days every 90 days. Authors and publishers can enroll a single title, their whole catalog or anything in between within KDP Select.

This e-book platform from self-publishing giant AuthorSolutions (now owned by Penguin) distributes to all the major e-book retailers including Kobo, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon as well as Penguin’s Book Country bookstore. Booktango offers free ISBNs and five publishing packages ranging from a free DIY version to the $359 Eye Catcher. Royalties are some of the highest rates on offer with 100% of list royalties on books sold through Book Country and 100% of net on books sold through Booktango’s online retail partners. An extensive selection of add-on services are available, including book trailers, a publicity team, an author website, and a service that promises to get your book in front of “Hollywood agents, producers, directors, and writers.” Booktango is a straightforward platform that emphasizes the importance of authors getting paid for their hard work. Free guidelines and video tutorials are provided.
Thank you for this very helpful website. We are trying to get all our ducks in a row to publish our new book by May 2012. This process is a bit confusing and you have helped me a lot on this. I was dissapointed to see how much droid and apple apps are to create. This was going to be a critical step in jumping ahead. We have our blog and hitting 60,000 hits a month since Jan 2012 so I think we have a good base for our new book on relationships. Professor Thomas Nagle has been trying to get this book together for 15 years lol. Visit us on tipsforlove.net Thank you so much for writing this. What do you think? Is 60,000 hits a month on a blog good enough to publish? I have not paid for advertising but instead used facebook and twitter to market this idea?
Beyond the excellence of the content itself, it’s going to be all about how well you market that eBook and get the word out that will determine if it gets its day in the digital sun. Speaking of Sean Platt, I’m working on something with his company that may well address how to help with that promotion (but can’t disclose this yet as it’s being built ; -). Promise to let all your readers know when that happens.
