Copying data is not stealing, as the owner of the original data gets to keep it. Sharing is caring. There are still ways to provide something back to a community, by uploading and sharing more rather than selfishly leeching and hoarding. You’re the type of person that encourages private art galleries and exclusive gigs and concerts only wealthy elites can afford to attend. Long live the freedom of information and the ability to share ones and zeros how we please.
This is probably the most comprehensive Kindle article I’ve ever read. As someone who’s been in publishing for many years and seen eBooks grow from internet marketers to the general public, and therefore being abused by authors who don’t know any better, I thank you for posting the importance of audience, a decent cover, and especially proper formatting.

There are some key differences between this self-publishing (which, by the way, doesn’t have the negative connotations it used to) and traditional publishing process. You won’t be dealing with printed books, for one. That eliminates the expense and hassle of actually creating books, storing them, and delivering them — and that may not even sell. It’s going to be all digital. These are ebooks, which can be read on devices like Amazon’s Kindle, on another tablet or smartphone, or even on a computer.

Now, after being greatly upset by the above post, we after all are just myself, my wife and a couple of writer friends trying to do something new and different, I decided to do some searching on the net and found a site closely related to our name (zippyshare) which DOES have quite a shady reputation as both spammer and illegal downloader, but I want to make the readers here at Library Thing aware that those folks have NOTHING to do with us. (I picked HotZippy because I thought it had a cute sounding name like Google or Kobo etc and probably should have looked a little more closely, though I never anticipated something such as this happening to us.)
Apple iBookstore. The Apple iBookstore lists over 700,000 titles. It supports all formats. To publish in the iBookstore, access the requirements and application. The royalty rate is 70 percent. Apple does not pay publishers until they meet payment requirements and earning thresholds, which vary by territory. Small publishers may get paid faster using an ebook aggregator.

Scribd has long been the go-to spot for sharing text-based documents, but it’s been in the news recently for its new, subscription-based premium reader service (unlimited books for $8.99 a month). Now that the service has been monetized, e-books are available either to purchase separately (outside the subscription model) or via its subscription service and are available in both the Scribd store and Scribd apps with royalties at “80% of revenue.” Unlike with other publishers that require an e-pub file, authors can upload any file type (pdf, word doc, rtf) for free and make changes easily by uploading a new file —while still retaining the document’s statistics, comments, and URL. Scribd emphasizes its facilitation of discoverability with over 80 million monthly readers and a curated homepage of selected titles based on the subscriber’s interests. It also bills itself as a social publisher that supports comments on author’s work and allows embedding of documents in blogs and other websites. Authors must register for a free Scribd account. Authors control pricing and preview options and have access to “instant analytics.”

"I have the Kindle app on my phone for when I am on the train during my morning commute but sometimes I just can't afford a new book :((((((((((((.......I decided to try torrents to see what kind of titles are out there for free.......After finding many torrent sites that are offline now or almost useless because of ads and malicious software, I stumbled upon Torrent Off. I was cautious at first, but after downloading several titles, or which there are more than 700,000 listed on the site, I was pleasantly surprised :) and continue to download from this site. It has worked like a charm with no viruses and no pop up ads like so many other torrent sites out there."
You can set up your own website and sell your ebook directly online. You might make a PDF available to your readers for example. A simple shopping cart or PayPal link and you’re all set. A reader visits your site, they order, and they get a download link and get your book. It’s pretty much all automated, and you simply keep an eye on things to make sure the site is running smoothly.

Another exceptional online tool for converting eBooks from one file format to another. CoolUtils supports popular eBook file formats such as EPUB, MOBI, FB2, RTF, PDF, AZW3 and HTMLZ. You can insert header and footer in the target eBook file by entering the values at the “options” menu. Go to the CoolUtils online eBook converter website to start converting your eBooks.

Molly, you can have perfectly formatted ebooks from Word using two free programs: Aspose.wordsEXPRESS to turn your properly formatted Word document into an epub file, then Calibre to set the meta data and add an ebook cover. Calibre will convert your epub file to Mobi (and many other formats) and give you a file that can be uploaded to Amazon very easily. The process takes minutes. No Htlm fussing around – you can download Kindle for PC or Mac to preview your book. If you see errors, just edit your original Word document and run it through the process again! I will send you a free copy of my short guide about this (it has screenshots) if you tell me where to send it?
[more][Less]
This design-oriented digital and print publisher distributes across all the major e-book retailers as well as the Vook bookstore. Vook provides free ISBNS although its publishing packages are among the most expensive in the marketplace. Authors can publish their e-books starting at $299 with add-on services like marketing consultations or copyediting available. The basic package includes conversion from most file formats to an e-pub file, two free previews and rounds of revisions, daily sales tracking, an optional (very basic) free cover design, and the ability to include up to 10 images and three audio/visual clips in the text. Additional changes after publication will incur a fee determined by the production coordinator. Authors can track the sales of just one book for free and additional books for a $9.99 monthly fee. Authors can run price promotions and have the ability to offer the book for free. Vook takes 15% of revenue from titles sold in its storefront.
This is Amazon's e-book publishing platform, and if you think you're going to sell a lot of e-books, you should figure out a way to upload your file (book) directly to KDP and avoid using any sort of middleman or e-book "aggregator" that takes a cut of the profits. If you're a true DIY person, you can create your own cover (though if you're not a professional designer, it's better to hire a pro) and format your e-book from a Word file using free software tools such as Mobipocket eBook Creator or Calibre. Mobipocket Creator allows you to create an e-book with a table of contents and convert it into Amazon's proprietary e-book format, AZW (MOBI, the file output by the program, is the same as AZW). You can start with a Word file, which then gets converted to HTML, then MOBI. (Check out the Mobipocket eBook Creator guide at the company's Web site).

Most of the aggregators offer various services other than ebook distribution and aggregation such as ebook conversion, cover design, editing and some even have print-on-demand services. They can also provide help with ISBN acquisition, copyrighting and tracking user payments. However, their primary focus is on distributing content to more than just one store. An aggregator helps authors and publishers reach the stores globally with their ebooks. As an ebook aggregator, PublishDrive delivers ebooks to iBooks, GooglePlay, Amazon Kindle, Scribd, OverDrive and 400+ stores and 240k libraries in US, China, India, Europe and over 100 countries. BookBaby. BookBaby publishes and distributes ebooks to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Sony, and Apple. BookBaby offers a variety of services such as format conversion, cover design, and even custom book printing. BookBaby’s basic package is $99, plus $19 annual fee after the first year. Hi – thanks for this post. I knew about having to have the right format for an ebook to be on Kindle and Amazon. Those distribution centers are a bit way off for me right now. But – what I want to do is to offer a short ebook in a PDF on my blog/Facebook page etc – to encourage people to sign up for my blog and to like me on Facebook. How professional does a free ebook have to be? Can I just hire an editor to help me with the layout for that?

Jane: Thanks so much for this awesome compendium! I have benefited greatly from other postings of yours as well. I do have one question, however. I absolutely MUST get an editor for my historical fiction novel but am also unemployed. I have heard from others about Movable Type Management/Rogue Pricing, which offers editing for a small take of the profits (which seems wholly fair to me) though I would be open to other similar entities. I don’t find much here in this list addressing editors and outfits such as MTM, unless I am overlooking something. My novel is around 260,000… Read more »
ExtraTorrent has an impressive collection of Books in the electronic formats such as AZW3, MOBI, EPUB, PDF, etc. Here you will be able to download eBook torrent in multiple genres such as fiction, classics, general reads, educational, best sellers, etc. I could quickly find some interesting eBooks such as A Midnight Dream, Time to Kill, The Essentials of Statistics, Secret to Drawing Realistic Facts by Carrie Stuart Parks, etc.
1337X is another best torrent site for download ebooks. If you are looking for Ebook torrents then 1337X is ebook share torrent site. 1337X is a peer to peer torrenting website which works on the BitTorrent set of commands or protocols. It is currently the sixth most popular torrent site in the world. For e-book lovers, this is a paradise. Sample copies, new versions, old versions, blueprints etc. can be found very easily on this website.

Amazon has an abundance of lists, such as Top Rated lists, Bestsellers List, Hot New Release list, Gift Idea lists, Top-100 lists for each category, “If you like this you may …” lists, “So you want to” lists and Top Rated Author Lists. When someone downloads your book (for free or paid), it moves up the charts. A lot more people will see it then, compared to before your free days.  Being more visible when the book is reverted back to a paid download, means more people can find it, and will results in more sales.  When people download your book, it starts appearing in the “People who bought this book also bought..” and “Recommended for you” sections, even more increasing visibility.
When you want to convert AZW to PDF, it can recognize Kindle AZW file version automatically, and optimize for different version, which makes the converted PDF files keep the same with the original file in displaying effect(eg: layout and appearance). After the continuous improvement of programmed algorithms, most AZW books can be converted successfully and kept in best conversion quality. You can save or transfer the converted PDF files to other e-reader to read easily.
E-Books Directory has an even smaller library with only 10,270 books in its database. However, whatever little is available, it guaranteed to be of superior quality in terms of both, content and the torrent file itself. We absolutely love how well they’ve organized the books. The site has about 678 categories so this is a great site for downloading books specifically suited to your interest. It also has other filters such as “New”, “Top 20”, and “Popular” to make discovering new books, a simpler process.

Thanks for the reply. No, I wasn’t seeking a correction. And I understand this is the image Amazon put out to advertise the Kindle Touch. If I were writing this post, I would’ve just probably added a line to clarify authorship of the book being shown on the device. That’s all. (In full disclosure, Paula is a good friend. I am in the acknowledgements of the Paris WIfe.)
The entire above-listed torrent site has their own pros and cons. Majority of the sites is meant not only for e-books. You can download movies, games and many more. If you can afford to buy your favorite e-book then go ahead and buy those books on Amazon or other websites. This article is for those people who cannot afford/willing to buy the e-books.
Generally speaking, if a company charges you for publishing your book and is fairly vague about what they are spending your money on, be alert. Once you sign your rights away, it is difficult to get them back. Other than vanity publishers, there are several companies that act as retailers and distributors and offer some publishing services (conversion or editing) as well. There are some things you’ll need to consider before signing up anywhere:

BookBaby offers global distribution to the major e-book retailers including Amazon, Kobo, Nook, and iBookstore. With three publishing packages to choose from, authors can supply their own e-pub file for free or opt to pay $99 for the conversion. Royalties are 85% of net for the free and standard packages and 100% of net with the premium package ($249). All packages include access to the company’s Book Promo program, which includes a social media marketing guide, coupons for book trailer production companies and publicity services, and “guaranteed book reviews.” A great feature is the free “BookShop” page, which includes information about the author’s book and buy buttons for the various retailers. BookBaby can assign e-book ISBNs for $19. E-books take from five to 10 days from upload to appearing in stores, depending on whether the author supplied a file that needed conversion. BookBaby also offers basic cover design for $149 and deluxe cover design for $279. Once authors have published their books they will incur a fee for any subsequent changes to the text (10 changes costs $50, for example). Like Kobo and KDP, BookBaby offers authors additional marketing opportunities to promote and sell their work.
You work from a selection of templates and can add multitouch widgets to include interactive photo galleries, movies, 3D objects, and more. When you're done, you then have to fill out an application to create an account before you can upload your creations to the iBookstore or iTunes U (Apple has billed iBooks Author as a multifaceted tool for creating everything from textbooks to cookbooks to picture books, and anything else you can think of).
From my experience of publishing two fiction books on kindle, actually writing them and publishing them was the easy part. Trying to publicise your work, get sales and push your books up the rankings is a very hard slog. Perhaps it may become easier the more books you publish because then it becomes a numbers game like having more chance of winning a prize the more entry tickets you buy.
You are stealing not just the book, but the author’s payment as well. You’re also the kind of idiot that thinks all authors earn ‘enough’, that they all earn the same kind of money as JK Rowling. The truth is that most don’t earn enough to write full-time. They write at night, early in the morning, any moment they can snatch while holding down sometimes up to 2 jobs to make ends meet.
Unfortunately, the original Kickass Torrent site does not exist any longer but you can log onto its mirror site – katcr.co and get a similar experience. The site works the same way as TPB and is quite easy to use. Currently, it boasts of over 1,75,000 e-books that can be downloaded for free. In case you’re unable to find the book you’re looking for, you could post your request on their community forum. If their main site is not working, then you can try Kickass proxy sites.
Believe it or not, you might already have most of an ebook written already. If you are already making money with a blog, those blog posts could be turned into an ebook with some editing. Simply collect relevant blog posts into an order that makes sense, make any needed edits so that references that aren’t relevant are taken out, and add an introduction and conclusion, and you’re done. Any blog posts you use should cover the same or related topics and work well together.
The Kindle Owners' Lending Library allows Amazon Prime members to "check out" your e-book for free (members can only check out one eligible title per month). Obviously, being able to offer your book for free to thousands -- or potentially million of customers -- increases the odds you'll "sell" more books. And what's nice is that even though people may not being paying to download your book, you're still getting paid -- and pretty well, according to Amazon.

One of the ways we have built our blog up to reaching 111 countries and 60,000 hits between our 2 sites is to leave the article hanging when we write it.. they read the article and get the gist but we leave it open on the end. The rest will be in the upcoming book. I don’t know if we have enough to publish yet in interest what do you think? I found it interesting that men don’t come into our tipsforlove.net site but they will come in and read the same articles on my projecttroops.org site. It’s macho and means it ok to read..but tipsforlove? I think they think it’s to female oriented to read. This is important to know if starting a blog.. will you get the readers in with your title? Thanks Tamra Lynn Smith and best of luck to you all.

Hi, I am Dhruv Sharma founder of gadgetsloud.com. I am a learner, an explorer and also good food lover. I like to blog since 2010. With more than 90 categories of books in its library, this site has been dedicatedly built for eBooks and this is the site, wherein, you can expect to find the books of your choice, covering all the probable genres. This registration process takes the minimum time, and you need not pay a penny to complete the formalities in this regard. It is a free ebook torrent site. Once done, you are just a click away from finding the massive collection of books as per your choice.
Indeed, it’s pretty confusing out there. Rogue Reader is a new model of publishing, what I generally call partnership publishing. You don’t pay to get published, nor do they pay you an advance. It’s a profit-share model, and they invest in things like editing, design, etc. But like a traditional publisher, you still have to get your work accepted, and their selectivity, from what I hear, is on the same level as trying to gain acceptance by an agent or Big Five house.
According to the official Epubsoft EBook Converter website, you can easily convert more than 50 eBooks at an instance. Also, this software is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 and later versions. With all these features, you may be wondering whether Epubsoft EBook Converter is free: this software is available at a price of $39.99 but can download a free trial here.
Writer M.Louisa Locke reports:  “Having fewer free promotions increased the effectiveness of the promotions I did, placing the promotions near the end of the month did stimulate borrows, and publishing additional works did compensate for the lower royalties brought in by the first two books in the series.”  Good luck for your KDP Select promotion and let us know if you have more ideas how to publicize your book during this time.
