As far as I know, even outfits like Rogue Reader have a submissions/acceptance process; you can’t offer a profit share and expect to be assisted for free without them reviewing the work and deciding it’s something they want to invest time into. (However, if you can provide a link to a page that explains otherwise, I’d definitely like to see it.) If you don’t want to pay anything for editing, your best bet is to get involved in online writing communities where writers serve as each others beta readers. Wattpad, Authonomy, and BookCountry are some of the most active and… Read more »

Verify your publishing rights. Public domain books are out of copyright. So, say you wanted to publish Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, you could publish it but it's likely that one of the official versions would sell better and it's available for free everywhere anyway. For your own books, select “This is not a public domain work and I hold the necessary publishing rights.”
It all depends on what you’re knowledgable in. If you’re writing about a specific craft that you’re well-versed in, your blog is used to educate your audience on useful tips and insights that you learned and used through your own experiences. For example, Copyblogger provides insight on publishing, writing, blogging, marketing, and so forth. Their product varies from WordPress themes and tools used within.
Thanks for the reply. No, I wasn’t seeking a correction. And I understand this is the image Amazon put out to advertise the Kindle Touch. If I were writing this post, I would’ve just probably added a line to clarify authorship of the book being shown on the device. That’s all. (In full disclosure, Paula is a good friend. I am in the acknowledgements of the Paris WIfe.)
The good news is that you don’t have to choose between working directly with online retailers and using ebook distributors, since it’s rare for any distributor to demand exclusivity. For example, you could choose to work directly with Amazon KDP to sell your ebooks on Amazon, then use an ebook distributor such as Draft2Digital or Smashwords to reach other retailers. Or you could choose to distribute directly to Amazon, Apple, Kobo, and Nook (by using their do-it-yourself portals), then use Smashwords to capture the rest of the market (such as Scribd and libraries).

From my experience of publishing two fiction books on kindle, actually writing them and publishing them was the easy part. Trying to publicise your work, get sales and push your books up the rankings is a very hard slog. Perhaps it may become easier the more books you publish because then it becomes a numbers game like having more chance of winning a prize the more entry tickets you buy.

2020ok around 100 books for babies through 12 nicely divided into categories.  Note:  Most of the links here are working, but there are a number that lead to BookRags, which are not free anymore.  Unfortunately, there is no way of telling where the link goes until you click the link.  Since they did fix the issue with archive.org links, hopefully they will fix this. Thanks to Marie99 for pointing this out.
Did you know that e-book sales are projected to account for about a quarter of global book sales by 2018? This is because there has been a shift from a print to digital industry in some media and educational platforms. Consumer e-books are forecast to generate a revenue of 20 billion US dollars by 2018 according to statistics. This can be attributed to the significant increase of e-books sold in the United States from approximately 69 million copies in 2010 to 266 million copies in 2017. According to WrittenWord Media, 2018 is the year of indie authors for they will continue to produce affordable and high-quality e-books and price their books below the market of traditional publishers, who tend to focus on their go-to franchises. Nevertheless, both traditional and indie writers will have so much in store for all the bookworms out there.

Scribd has added HTML5 coding, so your document can easily be read on the iPad via the Safari browser (this allows you to use Apple's finger-based, pinch-and-spread touch zoom controls). Currently, the majority of documents posted to Scribd are free to view or download (it's a great way to post samples of your work), but you can sell your work on Scribd as well. (If you want to see an example, I posted a free excerpt of my own book to Scribd. Alas, I should have made my cover larger so it didn't have a white border, but so it goes).
Also, if you have books in print from previous publishing deals, you can get them scanned from print back into Word so you can produce an ebook from that retrospectively. Many authors who had deals over 10 years ago will own their ebook rights, so it’s worth checking your contracts to see if you can publish digital versions, even if a traditional publisher owns your print rights. Make sure your dates at the free book lists are correct! Most of these posts are scheduled in advance so if your book is not free, you could be blacklisted. Double-check your Amazon ASIN number if the link is correct when you submit to sites (copy and paste from Amazon rather than type it in). You certainly can shorten your Amazon link, e.g. Amazon.com/dp/B008Y15YYO.  However, do not use any of these commercial link shorteners (bit.ly, wp etc. or Amazon affiliate links) for submission to promotional free book websites, they will not accept them.
If you have a lot of images in your book or a lot of complicated tables, then you will have more problems in formatting. You will also have a bigger file size, and although ebooks are typically free in terms of delivery, Amazon does include a delivery cost in their pricing setup. That will be higher if you have a bigger file, and images can really expand the file size. If your delivery cost goes too high, you’re not going to make much royalty. So, it’s really important to consider the size of your file.
