Blurb places an emphasis on its print book options, but also offers fixed format e-books, which are sold through the Blurb Bookstore and Apple’s iBookstore. Blurb charges a one-time $9.99 e-book publishing fee. While more limited in discoverability than other platforms, Blurb is ideal for authors who have a design-heavy project like a cookbook or children’s book, and authors can also create enhanced e-books with audio and video. Authors are able to choose from existing design templates using the company’s Bookify tool or opt for more options with the downloadable application BookSmart. Royalties are 80% of list price minus Apple’s 30% fee from books sold via the iBookstore—payments are either made via PayPal (subject to a $1 processing fee) or check ($5 processing fee). For authors who are looking for a supportive online community, Blurb also offers an inspiration hub with creative writing exercises, a tips and tutorials page with numerous webinar tutorials, and the Blurb Indie café, which gathers together indie publishing resources and tips.
All promotions must run a minimum of two days if they are to be approved by our editorial staff. There are several reasons for this minimum rule, the most important being that it can take more than 24 hours for our ads to propagate throughout our Social Networks and members of our email newsletter list often times open the emails the day after they are received. Two days of promotion make for better market saturation and a more likely chance for readers to discover your eBook.

Someone asked in the comments here about books in the Peter Pan series and I thought that it would be a good idea to gather together the various locations for the books in a children's series.  Since I did not want to take up further web pages here at Gizmo's, I set up a site at Google Sites to provide the links for these books.  As of now, I have listed only one series, but if there is interest I will post up more.  Please let me know in the comments below (or at the Google site) if you are interested.

Very timely post — I’m in the brainstorming phase of re-formatting a lot of my online course content into a Kindle format and love your idea of creating a suite of comprehensive learning products. I do wonder about Sean’s prediction and how it translates to laying on your belly reading a book on the beach–I’ll take sand in my pages over my Kindle any day.

Scribd has added HTML5 coding, so your document can easily be read on the iPad via the Safari browser (this allows you to use Apple's finger-based, pinch-and-spread touch zoom controls). Currently, the majority of documents posted to Scribd are free to view or download (it's a great way to post samples of your work), but you can sell your work on Scribd as well. (If you want to see an example, I posted a free excerpt of my own book to Scribd. Alas, I should have made my cover larger so it didn't have a white border, but so it goes).

Great post, and I’m glad I read it because I have a lot of ideas and have one book written (for teens), but I wasn’t sure if I should turn it into an eBook or keep it as a ‘full blown’ non-fiction book. Of course, I could self-publish it and write eBooks based on the material, develop webinars/teleseminars, speak with teens/parents/professionals who work with teens, etc. Hmm…I have a lot of thinking to do. It’s time I get off my butt and get my products out there. 🙂

[more][Less]

Open eBooks is a library containing thousands of popular and award-winning titles that are free for children from in-need communities. These eBooks can be read without checkouts or holds. The goal of Open eBooks is to encourage a love of reading and serve as a gateway to children reading even more often, whether in school, at libraries, or through other eBook reading apps.
As for the Kindle, well, Smashwords says it's still waiting for Amazon to update its KDP intake systems so it automatically can ingest Smashwords titles as other retailers do (the 200 or so titles that Smashwords has loaded into KDP have been loaded manually). Amazon encourages authors to upload directly through KDP, so I wouldn't count on this happening anytime soon.

The discussion about the best sites to download the ebook from torrent will be incomplete unless you give a special mention to this site. As for the genre of books, it covers all the probable topics of choice, ranging from Lifestyle, Business, Science & Fiction, Economics, Politics, Business, Health and various others. One of the features of this site that deserves a special mention is that it allows sub-categorization that makes it easier for the readers to easily find the books of their choice.

Decide on DRM. Digital Rights Management is a way of locking a book to a format. So, people buy this Kindle book and they can only read it on a Kindle device. I don't enable digital rights management on any platform. As far as I'm concerned, if readers want to read it on another device, they should be able to. So, I always click, “Do not enable digital rights management.” If you want more information on this, check out Cory Doctorow on freedom of expression, DRM, piracy and censorship.
Give away the first chapter of your book as an immediately accessible PDF on your web page or on Amazon. Include a re-tweet button in several strategic locations in the chapter. This allows people who love what they read, to easily share with friends on Twitter.  When someone clicks on this re-tweet button, it shows a pre-crafted tweet that says: “I’m reading @……. new book: … Get the first chapter free here too: http://………” You get the idea?
