Great post and great insight on how to get your ebooks published and where. This post gave me great ideas on a booklet I’m revising for my business. Thought I should publish as a .PDF on my website, but now I’m considering creating it for Kindle too. With the ever-changing audiences and readers demanding more for less, it really is important to be so progressive. I’m diversifying my offerings and this will be one avenue I definitely want to pursue.

Thank you that’s very flattering. Yes, I agree people do have different preferences, but I do believe that Amazon is dominating in their market. People buy iPads and don’t even really use iBooks — they use Kindle reading app. It does depend on the audience and what not, but overall, with the right marketing, the right target audience in mind, as well as a strong platform, your eBook should get into the hands of your audience. One thing that really has helped me was guest posting for other sites; it still is the most highly effective way of marketing, building relationships, attracting new readers, and spreading the word of your eBook.
You may already know of this site: The University of Virgina has a VERY OLD, and now abandoned in place, library of selected Hypertexts ... a few of which are good reads. The link is old, and very obscure: I saw some DUST fall off when I first clicked on it! http://xroads.virginia.edu/~HYPER/main.html (Darn I hate to see a project RUSTING in cyberspace like this .... :( ) When WAS that page last updated, anyway? I suspect it originated about the era of Windows 3.1 ~~~~~ 'cause that URL is very 'DOS like' ....
"Finding good, reliable torrent sites for eBooks has proven quite difficult. Freebookspot has made downloading eBooks and/or reading them online extremely fast and easy. The layout of the website is very organized and easy to use. The website has a vast selection of eBooks and audio eBooks available for download and makes it a great one stop shop for any eBook you would desire!"
Give away the first chapter of your book as an immediately accessible PDF on your web page or on Amazon. Include a re-tweet button in several strategic locations in the chapter. This allows people who love what they read, to easily share with friends on Twitter.  When someone clicks on this re-tweet button, it shows a pre-crafted tweet that says: “I’m reading @……. new book: … Get the first chapter free here too: http://………” You get the idea?
I believe, one of the best ways you can get your book to number one on Amazon by is to make use of these free eBook promoting websites and increasing it\’s popularity. If you do it all at once, it seems to turn viral and in no time, Amazon will see your book increasing in popularity and will display it on their main page. You can also try getting users to place reviews on your Amazon listing. A few reviews with 4+ stars will get your book noticed.CheersNick
FreeBookSpot is another torrent site that caters specifically to e-book consumers. It has over 90 categories belonging to a horde of genres including engineering, fiction, architecture, astronomy, audio books, computers, DIY, hardware, graphics, psychology, etc. Though it does have a decent catalogue of fiction titles, it is more popular for non-fiction and educational books. You can browse by genres or other sub-categories such as “Wanted”, “Expired”, “Most Popular”, and “Selections”. They do have an option for registering yourself as a user but that’s not mandatory to get access to the content. Aside from downloading e-books, you could even share your e-books and receive feedback from fellow users.
You just need to create an outline for the book to follow, set a schedule for when you’re going to write (if it’s original work) or when you’re going to work on it, how you will market the book and when each task needs to be done, and set a goal publication date when it will be offered on sale. It’s a matter of setting aside time each day. You can’t just work on this when you “feel” like it… otherwise, it’ll never get done.

Another free option is Any Ebook Converter. It supports EPUB, MOBI, AZW, PDF, and TXT files and allows you to edit a book’s metadata. Interestingly, the tool will also remove the DRM from any ebook automatically. Calibre can remove DRM from ebooks How to Remove the DRM on Every Ebook You Own How to Remove the DRM on Every Ebook You Own No one likes DRM. We all understand why it exists, but that doesn't mean we're ready to embrace it. Therefore, this article explains how to remove the DRM from every eBook you own. Believe it or not, you might already have most of an ebook written already. If you are already making money with a blog, those blog posts could be turned into an ebook with some editing. Simply collect relevant blog posts into an order that makes sense, make any needed edits so that references that aren’t relevant are taken out, and add an introduction and conclusion, and you’re done. Any blog posts you use should cover the same or related topics and work well together.

Creating & Formatting E-Books (Technical Stuff), please add Jutoh, a WYSIWYG design/editing program that builds your ebook. You can try it out for free or buy one of two versions. The $39 version is fine unless you need to have complete control over the HTML an CSS coding. Can be found here: jutoh.com. The graphic user interface is a lot like OpenOffice and Word, allowing great flexibility in design of your ebook.

The website of ebookee is again another torrent website centering a huge collection of e-books with a well-distributed category as for example, books on tech, tutorials, non-fiction, novels, computer programming, mathematics, windows, medicine, etc. What is most unique about this website is its system of sub-categories that makes it really easy to choose a book related to what you want.

You just need to create an outline for the book to follow, set a schedule for when you’re going to write (if it’s original work) or when you’re going to work on it, how you will market the book and when each task needs to be done, and set a goal publication date when it will be offered on sale. Pricing: iBooks royalty rates are a flat 70% for all prices and all territories. Publishing on iBooks requires the iTunes Producer program, which is only available for a Mac. Unless you have the software to make your PC run Mac programs, you’ll need to take one of two steps to get your books on the platform. You’ll either have to borrow a Mac to publish, or you’ll have to go to a third-party publisher like Draft2Digital or Smashwords.

Indeed, it’s pretty confusing out there. Rogue Reader is a new model of publishing, what I generally call partnership publishing. You don’t pay to get published, nor do they pay you an advance. It’s a profit-share model, and they invest in things like editing, design, etc. But like a traditional publisher, you still have to get your work accepted, and their selectivity, from what I hear, is on the same level as trying to gain acceptance by an agent or Big Five house.
Payhip is an e-commerce website that offers you to sell any type of downloadable digital material, including ebooks. You create a customizable sales page on Payhip for free and it gives you the tools to sell your product, such as discount coupons, share buttons, affiliate program and flexible pricing options. Payhip will simply keep 5% of all the sales you make – simple right?
Ebookee is yet another e-book-centric torrent site with a myriad category such as Tech, Novel, Non-Fiction, Tutorials, Magazines, Business, Entertainment, Economics, Newspapers, and other educational genres such as Health, Programming, C++, Mathematics, Medicine, Windows, and Security/Hacking. One feature that really stood out was the sub-category system classified into groups such as “Recently Viewed eBooks”, “Top 10 eBooks”, “Top 10 Users”, “Active users”, and “Latest Added Books”. These sub-categories make it a lot easier to pick a book.

So the Websites I am gonna tell is completely free to use, explore, reliable and download any ebook torrent. I published my ebook . Write Like You Talk–Only Better, through both Kindle and Smashwords, because I wanted to make sure it was easy to download for all e-readers. They convert to all formats and distribute at no charge, though they do take a slice of the revenues, like Amazon does. I was also be offer free downloads, which are resulting in more reviews.

2. Designer’s cost varies depending on what you want. You don’t have to pay an extravagant price. Also note, the cover doesn’t have to be extravagant. It has to be clear. Simple. Attractive. Sends the right message about what your book is going to be about. I would recommend a dear friend of mine who is both fair in pricing and excellent in her work. Her website is http://doublestopdesign.com/

Though 1337x is essentially a torrent site, it has no creator as such. In fact, the moderators have already run out on the site as far as its operation and maintenance is concerned. At present, it is maintained and updated by none other than the fans and users themselves. This site is awesome for those who like a bit of everything, movies, TV series, games, books, etc. However, it may not be the best option for avid readers.

This website, no doubt, is known to have one the most user-friendly interfaces as well as visual designs in the list of the torrent sites for e-books. Categorized into a wide range of divisions like Genres, Book Titles, Language, Authors, Popular, etc, this website is known to host nearly 50,000 free titles of e-books. And if you yourself are an author, you can surely make use of this website to promote your work.

Hi Jane, I saw you a couple years ago at your e-publishing presentation in Portland, Oregon. I wonder if you could address the image issue in ebooks? I see Vook listed as a good option. I plan to publish a guide ebook to food and it requires many images, maps and icons. Will including many images be a drawback for distributing my guide on Amazon, etc? Can BookBaby handle heavy image use, or is Vook the best bet?

This design-oriented digital and print publisher distributes across all the major e-book retailers as well as the Vook bookstore. Vook provides free ISBNS although its publishing packages are among the most expensive in the marketplace. Authors can publish their e-books starting at $299 with add-on services like marketing consultations or copyediting available. The basic package includes conversion from most file formats to an e-pub file, two free previews and rounds of revisions, daily sales tracking, an optional (very basic) free cover design, and the ability to include up to 10 images and three audio/visual clips in the text. Additional changes after publication will incur a fee determined by the production coordinator. Authors can track the sales of just one book for free and additional books for a $9.99 monthly fee. Authors can run price promotions and have the ability to offer the book for free. Vook takes 15% of revenue from titles sold in its storefront.
The big benefit to working through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, even though they charge you a commission on your sales, is their reach. Around 89 million Americans are said to be active ebook readers. That’s your potential audience, all those people visiting this site and browsing for a new book. It could be your book they find when doing a search on a related keyword. In fact, 38 percent of daily sales of ebooks on Amazon go to self-published titles.
This is terrifically wrong and misleading. You can’t publish a book for free if you want quality (and if you don’t want quality, why bother at all? just write anything, forget about covers, descriptions, formatting – it after all it’s garbage anyway). Your friend or your English teacher won’t provide a viable editing (and viable editing is so much more than just spellcheck). If you think otherwise, you’re delusional.
Great post. I think for eBook authors outside of the US, though, Amazon is just a pain. Firstly, they take months to pay. Secondly, they actually send a physical paper check all the way across the ocean (I live in Australia) instead of just paying by PayPal. It’s very 1970s, and irritating. So if you get a payment of $20, you have to pay a currency conversion fee of $10 at the bank here, so you only get half your money.
Professor Garfield  Garfield the cat hosts a website with a good collection of original and unique stories for younger readers (press the Read button on the home page).  Most of the content is available for free reading online in a flash viewer without registration.  There are also some books available for free download in PDF without registration.

"Planet eBook is great if you are looking for free eBooks that are in the genre of classic literature. Books like "The Great Gatsby" and "A Tale of Two Cities". This website makes it easy to find and download these titles. There are 80+ titles available which is decent but nowhere near what Amazon has to offer in this category. I personally have found it easier to just use Amazon with my Kindle for free classic literature titles."

Book name/Title. You need to enter the exact title as shown on the cover in this field. This is because people used to ‘stuff' keywords into the title field e.g. “Paranormal romance with a noir detective twist.” If it's not on the cover, you can't include it here! However, you can change your title if you want to rebrand the books in the future. It can be done, but it's not easy. Here's my own experience with changing titles and covers.
An ebook converter without ebook reader is competent. When you import ebooks to Any EBook Converter Free, you can select one of the listed books to read them in the integrated ebook reader, which has all functions you could imagine for an e-reader like page flipping/scrolling/jumping, font adjustment, zooming, table of contents, bookmarking, fullscreen, searching, text printing, metadata viewing and tons of others.
Another comprehensive service to host your ebooks and it does all the hard work of selling them for you. You can create a sales page for your ebooks and use power tools like multiple payments support, affiliate programs, protected storage, discount offers, manage inventory, create packages, Google Analytics and more. E-Junkie charges fixed monthly payment based on your needs.
