BookBaby offers global distribution to the major e-book retailers including Amazon, Kobo, Nook, and iBookstore. With three publishing packages to choose from, authors can supply their own e-pub file for free or opt to pay $99 for the conversion. Royalties are 85% of net for the free and standard packages and 100% of net with the premium package ($249). All packages include access to the company’s Book Promo program, which includes a social media marketing guide, coupons for book trailer production companies and publicity services, and “guaranteed book reviews.” A great feature is the free “BookShop” page, which includes information about the author’s book and buy buttons for the various retailers. BookBaby can assign e-book ISBNs for $19. E-books take from five to 10 days from upload to appearing in stores, depending on whether the author supplied a file that needed conversion. BookBaby also offers basic cover design for $149 and deluxe cover design for $279. Once authors have published their books they will incur a fee for any subsequent changes to the text (10 changes costs $50, for example). Like Kobo and KDP, BookBaby offers authors additional marketing opportunities to promote and sell their work.
However, in an effort to attract authors Booktango is offering a true 100 percent royalty rate until July 4. And the Web site says that if you publish an e-book with Booktango by July 4, you'll retain that 100 percent rate for the life of that book. That means if you make a sale through Booktango's e-book store, you'll get the full amount of the sale (I'm not sure if credit card fees are deducted or not). You'll also get the full 100 percent net of the sale when selling through other e-booksellers (Apple, Amazon, and others will take their 30 percent cut, of course).
Free torrent downloading websites are also a great place to download free ebooks. If you are new to torrents websites and torrents file and want to know how to download and play torrents file. Make sure your dates at the free book lists are correct! Most of these posts are scheduled in advance so if your book is not free, you could be blacklisted. Double-check your Amazon ASIN number if the link is correct when you submit to sites (copy and paste from Amazon rather than type it in). You certainly can shorten your Amazon link, e.g. Amazon.com/dp/B008Y15YYO.  However, do not use any of these commercial link shorteners (bit.ly, wp etc. or Amazon affiliate links) for submission to promotional free book websites, they will not accept them.

Amazon has an abundance of lists, such as Top Rated lists, Bestsellers List, Hot New Release list, Gift Idea lists, Top-100 lists for each category, “If you like this you may …” lists, “So you want to” lists and Top Rated Author Lists. When someone downloads your book (for free or paid), it moves up the charts. A lot more people will see it then, compared to before your free days.  Being more visible when the book is reverted back to a paid download, means more people can find it, and will results in more sales.  When people download your book, it starts appearing in the “People who bought this book also bought..” and “Recommended for you” sections, even more increasing visibility.
If you’re writing non-fiction with images, really consider whether you need them and whether they are critical to the reader’s experience. Authors can get romantically attached to images that actually might not be needed. It could be better to put your images on your website and include links within your books. This will get people over to your website, where they could potentially sign up for your email list. You could also put the images on a Pinterest board for social media sharing and use them for marketing.

Online ebook converters are now favored by some readers, but why not truly own a much more powerful converter and reader app that doesn't use network? Online converters always have limitations of this and that and if you want to convert ebooks that you don't want others to be aware of the content, uploading them to online converters' servers is like the worst idea ever because they store your files!

Thank you for a well-written and well-formatted post. I’ve tried to scan all 182 comments and answers (!) but forgive me if this has already been addressed… I’m going to publish with KDP then opt-out @ 90 days so I can sell via my own site. I believe Word play better than Pages with KDP due to conversion issues to .mobi. My content will consist of stories, photographs and recipes – so I anticipate formatting nightmares.

Most of the aggregators offer various services other than ebook distribution and aggregation such as ebook conversion, cover design, editing and some even have print-on-demand services. Scribd has long been the go-to spot for sharing text-based documents, but it’s been in the news recently for its new, subscription-based premium reader service (unlimited books for $8.99 a month). Now that the service has been monetized, e-books are available either to purchase separately (outside the subscription model) or via its subscription service and are available in both the Scribd store and Scribd apps with royalties at “80% of revenue.” Unlike with other publishers that require an e-pub file, authors can upload any file type (pdf, word doc, rtf) for free and make changes easily by uploading a new file —while still retaining the document’s statistics, comments, and URL. Scribd emphasizes its facilitation of discoverability with over 80 million monthly readers and a curated homepage of selected titles based on the subscriber’s interests. It also bills itself as a social publisher that supports comments on author’s work and allows embedding of documents in blogs and other websites. Authors must register for a free Scribd account. Authors control pricing and preview options and have access to “instant analytics.”

If you don't want to go the total DIY route, you can pay someone a few hundred dollars (or less) to format your e-book for you, but you'll still need to come up with a cover. J.A. Konrath, who's had a lot of success in the self-published e-book space and has written an excellent primer called "How to Make Money on eBooks," recommended Rob Siders at www.52novels.com. You can also try Ray Fowler at rayfowler.org. And Smashwords' founder Mark Coker maintains "Mark's List," which is a list of low-cost e-book formatters and cover designers with pricing starting at about $50. You can get the list via instant autoresponder by e-mailing list@smashwords.com.

Manybooks has hands down, one of the best user interfaces and design in the microcosm of e-book torrent sites. A million thanks for the article and all the commenting. There is enough in here to keep me reading and researching for a month (when I have the time.) Right now I’m looking for information for a friend who’s nearly finished writing and illustrating her book, but is no more computer savvy than I am, and as I read all this, I realize I’m going to have to scramble up a steep learning curve to understand Kindle publishing and so much else.

Consider the value to the customer and what they can get for that price within the same genre. For example, if John Grisham's latest legal thriller is $4.99, you can't really price your first legal thriller at $7.99. I have fiction at free, $2.99 for novellas, $4.99 for full-length novels, $6.99-$8.99 for boxsets, $7.99 for non-fiction and then higher prices for other items.

When iBooks Author launched, some people were upset by the fact that your project can only live in Apple's e-book ecosystem and nowhere else. So it goes. At the moment, the iPad is far and away the best-selling tablet and represents arguably the biggest market for graphically rich color e-books, not to mention the best way to view them (particularly on the new iPad's Retina display). Yes, Amazon has sold a lot of Kindle Fires and the Barnes & Noble's Nook Color and Nook Tablet have found their way into a lot of homes. But the iPad's still king, and Apple's calling the shots here.
Formatted wrong for digital. After doing the PDF, I learned you need very specific formatting in order for a book to transfer to Kindle and other popular ebook formats. Of course, I didn’t bother to learn those specs and use them in creating my PDF. Given that, I would have needed to get someone to reformat the whole thing and repaginate it, which sounded like a massive headache. So I just passed on the whole opportunity. Now I realized it was stupid not to make the effort to get it converted.
There are reports in the traditional press about the slowing down of ebook sales in the US, but this is skewed by data that only report on books with ISBNs. Many indies, myself included, don’t use ISBNs for ebooks. In fact, Author Earnings reports in October 2015 that 33% of all ebooks sold in the US don’t have ISBNs and none of those sales are counted in the traditional press reports. The Feb 2016 report demonstrated that the percentage market share of ebooks by indie authors only continues to grow in the US market.
As far as I know, even outfits like Rogue Reader have a submissions/acceptance process; you can’t offer a profit share and expect to be assisted for free without them reviewing the work and deciding it’s something they want to invest time into. (However, if you can provide a link to a page that explains otherwise, I’d definitely like to see it.) If you don’t want to pay anything for editing, your best bet is to get involved in online writing communities where writers serve as each others beta readers. Wattpad, Authonomy, and BookCountry are some of the most active and… Read more »
"Planet eBook is great if you are looking for free eBooks that are in the genre of classic literature. Books like "The Great Gatsby" and "A Tale of Two Cities". This website makes it easy to find and download these titles. There are 80+ titles available which is decent but nowhere near what Amazon has to offer in this category. I personally have found it easier to just use Amazon with my Kindle for free classic literature titles."
Not enough specifics. I’ve learned that writers need to be told very specifically, exactly how you do something. For instance, one I got recently: “If I’m contacting a charity about doing a pro bono sample, what exactly should I say to not seem desperate?” You can bet the next version of this material will have a lot more granular detail and answers to these nitty-gritty questions.
A laird’s daughter kidnaps a Highlander—and loses her heart… in New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands’ new historical romance Lady Evina Maclean has heard much about Rory Buchanan’s skill as a healer. What she hasn’t heard is how good the brawny Highlander looks bathing in a waterfall. But Evina can’t afford the distraction, for her ailing father urgently needs...
That said, some books can be very hard to find online for free. The ones that are available for purchase on sites such as Amazon.com, can quickly burn a hole in your pocket given that you read a lot of books. So where do you get them from? Well, Torrent sites have long been serving as free sources for accessing a wide assortment of content such as movies, TV shows, games, software, music, and of course, e-Books. However, not all torrent websites are great for downloading e-Books. So to make things easier, we’ve sifted out some of the best e-Book torrenting sites for you. Take a look:
"I love to read ! Boy I have found the site that allows me to enjoy any type of book I want to read around round the clock if I choose . Wikibooks is one of the best book torrent sites out there. the site provides open content e-books that mean anybody can edit the contents of the book. you will find over 2695 books with 56719 pages. A very useful site for students who can find books related to computing, Languages, Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Science and much more. Somewhere in the back of my mind is the thought that I started a Philosophy page, but could not find enough sites. Reasoning is not that popular. I will take another look around after this round of updates as it is a good area that deserves a page. Thanks. I am always looking for new ideas. Steve. EDIT: I take that back. A quick search finds quite a few sites. I will get a page up soon.
Coming from the music industry (and I know you know a little about that topic), they were quite certain the CD would live forever and they could just continue to reap their profits off the backs of the artists. But the same recording and distribution technology that became available and affordable to the lay person, which created the DIY music artist and forshadowed the death of the music biz is we knew it, is about to do the same to the conventional book publishing biz.

MOBI to EPUB Converter makes it possible that you can read Kindle books on more ereader or transfer Kindle MOBI books to other devices. MOBI format is specialized for Kindle device. Because Kindle is not an open source format, currently the ereader supports MOBI is not so many. After converting MOBI to EPUB, you can read your ebooks on non-Kindle device.

Have you often wondered how to get published? If so, ebook publishing might be the right avenue for you to take to realize that dream. Ebook publishing covers a broad range of products, from booklets on psychic readings, to how-to software, to hobby manuals, to choose-your-own-ending kids' books. Ebook publishing might not be an ideal solution for everyone, but don't reject the idea of making your manuscript into a downloadable product without at least considering the pros and cons.
Ebookee is yet another e-book-centric torrent site with a myriad category such as Tech, Novel, Non-Fiction, Tutorials, Magazines, Business, Entertainment, Economics, Newspapers, and other educational genres such as Health, Programming, C++, Mathematics, Medicine, Windows, and Security/Hacking. One feature that really stood out was the sub-category system classified into groups such as “Recently Viewed eBooks”, “Top 10 eBooks”, “Top 10 Users”, “Active users”, and “Latest Added Books”. These sub-categories make it a lot easier to pick a book.
When converting MOBI files, it is not to simply convert all the MOBI content to PDF images, but to adjust all the elements to the corresponding structure of PDF, therefore, the converted file will have better displaying effect and supports real-time editing and modification. After the MOBI format is converted to PDF, you can transfer the ebook to other device to read easily.
Free is a marketing strategy, in the same way that offering samples of cheese or wine in shops helps people to discover new tastes, so they might go on to buy the rest of the product. It's very useful when you have a series, as it can lead people into buying the rest of the books. If you want to make a book permafree, then you need to price it for $0 on stores that allow this: Kobo, iBooks, Smashwords, Draft2Digital, and then wait for Amazon to price match to $0.

Piracy will happen if your book is popular. There’s really no way of stopping it, but what do you think the most pirated books are? Harry Potter and other big sellers, of course, and does that impact their sales? Most people who pirate books are not going to be your readers anyway. It’s more important to consider obscurity, then piracy. More authors suffer from being completely unknown than from being famous enough to be significantly pirated.

I talked to Amazon who told me you can have your books on your website while in the Select Program only if you are in their affiliate program and the book is available via one of their book widgets or a text link generated by their affiliate program. So you can have them on your website or link to them in articles, ect., as long as the links are part of the Amazon Associates Program. Hope that helps!
One thing, though, I’m not sure how good their formatting service is and it doesn’t look like you can proof read your eBook on a reader device (I proof all my eBooks on my Kindle prior to sending them to BookBaby), so it’s kind of a shot in the dark if you don’t have a level of quality control there. I’ve seen people hire professional eBook programmers and due to a lack of quality control they ended up with a whole section of their book poorly formatted and nearly unreadable.

Not your typical eBook marketplace, Slicebooks offers a platform for you to essentially sell sections of your eBooks or other content. So if your business books have some helpful chapters or snippets, you can use this platform to repurpose and sell just those parts for people who may not be interested in an entire eBook. Pricing starts at $9 per month.

If you are interested in programming, this is a gold nugget for you. You will find almost any book related to programming, networking, and Windows. You will find programming books related to C, C#, Java, Python, Android Programming, Php and much more. They also provide books for IT Security, AI and Robotics, Project Management and etc. If you want to become a programmer, this is very helpful for you.
On the surface, Booktango, which bears the "beta" tag, looks fairly slick and should improve as the company adds more features. The ability to have WYSIWYG formatting capabilities is nice (even on the iPad) and you can either upload a cover image of your own choosing or design one using some provided templates. All in all, it looks like a perfectly decent way to get your e-book formatted and distributed to all the major e-book stores quickly. Like its competitors, Booktango also manages your e-book sales -- it rolls them all up into one account -- and you can have your royalties sent directly to your checking account.
"If all you want is older books, or just general textbooks for information, the site's great. None of the stuff on it is being used by my school though, so that's a bummer. My dad loves it though; he gets to read about all sorts of stuff for free. If you just want to learn, it's great. If you're looking to save money on class costs though, not gonna help. Wish more professors would assign out of the site's listings."

Book name/Title. You need to enter the exact title as shown on the cover in this field. This is because people used to ‘stuff' keywords into the title field e.g. “Paranormal romance with a noir detective twist.” If it's not on the cover, you can't include it here! However, you can change your title if you want to rebrand the books in the future. It can be done, but it's not easy. Here's my own experience with changing titles and covers.
1. I don’t know how much it would exactly cost. I paid roughly $100 to the company that I mentioned, 52novels, and they formatted the eBook for me in both Amazon format and ePub. With that, you can publish very easily. You fill in all the data about your book, the keywords, title, etc., and then you simply upload the file you were given. Then you set the pricing. Then you’re finished. Maybe try the website smashwords; I’m not too familiar with them but I know they have a service that helps you upload your eBook to various places.
